Apple Announces New iPhone 5s and 5c

This morning Apple announced the next batch of new iPhones, the new iPhone 5s and 5c. The 5c is a new version of the iPhone 5 that has better battery life, a new plastic outer body and comes in a range of different colours. Nothing too exciting here but the iPhone 5c makes for an excellent entry level smart phone with pricing on 2 year contracts starting at $99.

The real exciting news from the event though was the announcement of the iPhone 5c. New features begin with a new A7 processor, M7 motion coprocessor, a fingerprint identity sensor called Touch ID, new iSight 8MP camera with a larger sensor for improved photo quality, new HD face time camera, better battery and pre-loaded with iOS 7. Unfortunately though the 5s shares the same form factor and screen size as its predecessor. I was really looking forward to an iPhone 6 with a new design and larger screen. That said though if your in the market for a new iPhone the 5s looks to be a pretty impressive device.

Both the iPhone 5c and 5s will be available on September 20th, for existing iPhone 5 and 4s owners iOS 7 will be available September 18th.

Killzone Mercenary for Vita Available Early?

So I happened to be walking through my local London Drugs (sorry guys Canada only) and saw something that wasn’t quite right. Sitting there on the shelf was a copy of Killzone Mercenary for sale a whole 4 days before release. Obviously I had to buy it, when I was at the til though I was expecting to get shot down as their system would probably warn them about the street date. Well lucky me their system didn’t notice the slip up and I’m now the proud owner of an early copy of Killzone Mercenary. Your milage may vary but if you’re in Canada you might be able to find your own copy of Killzone early at London Drugs, good luck.

First Microsoft Xbox One Ad revealed, featuring…….Football?

So here we have it folks, our very first North American TV ad for the Xbox One. It shows American Football, Skype, and Kinect, and no gameplay footage. In fact it doesn’t even mention that can even PLAY games. I worry about the kind of message that Microsoft is sending by airing these on TV. I Understand that Football is huge in the U.S.A, but as a gamer, this doesn’t make me want to buy an Xbox One, not even in the slightest. What do you guys think?

Nintendo 2DS hands on Impressions and Video

So during PAX  (Penny Arcade Expo)  this past weekend in Seattle, we were able to go hands on with the new Nintendo 2DS system. So I thought I would write some quick impressions from my hands on time with it.

  • It is much lighter in the hand then I thought it would be, it appears to be quite heavy, but that is not the case at all, it is definitely lighter then both of its 3DS brothers.
  • It feels a lot like the original Gameboy advance. It’s sturdy, has a similar feel to the plastic, and feels solid, like you could easily give this to a child and not stress about it.
  • It is much nicer looking in person then I thought it would be. I actually really liked the hand feel when I was holding it and playing games on it. Because you are holding more of it in your hands, I could see this being easier to play over long periods of time then the 3DS Twins, as there is nothing weighing it down awkwardly on one side like you get when you have the 3DS open.
  • The screens are the same size as the regular 3DS, just not with the 3D. They seem to be the same nice screens that you expect.
  • You can still take 3D video/pictures and send them to your friends with a 3DS. They just can’t be displayed on the 2DS.
  • They have added a lock screen toggle switch in the bottom right corner, as well as the WiFi switch has been removed and is now a software toggle.
  • The new Home button looks really nice, I hope that it comes over to the 3DS in the future.
  • I managed to fit it in my back pocket. I think trying to get it in a front jeans pocket would be pretty difficult, but it did fit fine in my back jeans pocket. Just remember to remove it before sitting down.

So there you have it, those are my initial impressions of the new Nintendo 2DS. I must say I was a LOT more impressed with it once I was able to hold it, and see it in the flesh. This is a device for small kids, and to that end I think Nintendo nailed it.

Two New Pokemon Edition 3DS XL Systems coming soon to North America.

Pokemon 3DSXL Systems

Today, during Nintendo Direct, the company announced, two Limited-Edition Pokemon X/Y-themed 3DS XL models, one blue and one red, coming to North America on Sept 27th. These systems feature the likenesses of Xerneas and Yveltal, the two Legendary Pokemon that grace the covers of the Pokemon X and Pokemon Y game boxes. The Pokemon X and Y games are not included in the package and will be sold separately.

Xbox One release day announced for Nov 22.

So this morning Microsoft announced that the Xbox One will be rolling out to 13 Markets on Nov 22. Those 13 markets are, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. Many More are to follow in 2014.

They also announced that the Xbox One has been selling out of pre-order stock faster then any of their previous consoles, and that due to this huge demand, they will be making available a limited number of additional Xbox One Day One consoles for pre-order. No word was given how many additional units have been offered up for pre-order. So check your local retailer for more details.

So there we have it folks, the PS4 comes out on Nov 15 and one week later the Xbox One comes out. So what will you guys have underneath the tree this Christmas?

Nintendo Announces the Nintendo 2DS, No This is NOT a Joke.

This morning Nintendo announced, the Nintendo 2DS Handheld. It will play all of the DS and 3DS games, but only in 2D.

In the US it will be available in red or blue for $129.99 from 12th October, the same day Pokémon X and Pokémon Y comes out.

The Nintendo 2DS plays the entire library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS only in 2D, and features a fixed, slate-type form factor. Optional carry cases will be available in red or blue at launch for $12.99 a pop.

As for hardware features, the 2DS shares the Nintendo 3DS’ dual screens, gameplay controls and touchscreen features, and has backward compatibility with the existing library of over 2000 DS games. There’s also wireless connectivity for online multiplayer, Nintendo Video and access to the eShop.

Nintendo Drops Wii U Price to $299.99 on 9/20!

In a surprise move this morning Nintendo announced that they’re finally dropping the price of the Wii U Deluxe set to $299.99. This new Wii U bundle will include The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD and be available on September 20. Also if you notice the Wii U gamepad now has some cool Zelda themed artwork for this special bundle. Is this enough to make you consider the Wii U or is it too little too late?

Guild Wars 2 Is The Fastest Selling MMORPG Of All Time

Today, as a one year anniversary present to itself and its fans, Arenanet unveiled a very cool Infograph showcasing all kinds of information from there newest MMO, Guild Wars 2. Among them was the information that one year in they have sold over 3.5 Million copies, making Guild Wars 2 the fastest selling MMORPG of all time.
