Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Cloud-Strife-FFVII-Remake

Get your Buster Swords ready kids, this geek’s fantasy has finally come true. Square-Enix announced at E3 2015 the long speculated remake of their beloved title, Final Fantasy VII. Accompanied by a beautiful cinematic trailer sure to stir fond memories of your time in Midgar, the announcement relayed little else concerning details about the gameplay, story, or release date.  Tetsuya Nomura, game director, has been quoted as saying that the game will not be a “simple remake” and that scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, is hard at work creating new story content.

Since the announcement, heated debates have sprung up all over the interwebs concerning the mechanics of transporting outdated (yet cherished) gameplay to the modern era will work. Will we see turn-based combat and the materia system return in all their glory, or does the team over at Square-Enix have other plans? We can’t know for sure until a gameplay trailer is released, but I for one am rooting for the classic JRPG combat to stay as true to the original as possible. Give me my 16 counterattack materia, and I will show you destruction the likes you have never seen!  Now if only I could remember how to breed a gold chocobo…
