Nokia Announces Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 “phablets”

Lumia 1520_group shot_1

At Nokia World This morning in Dubai, Nokia announced 2 new phones; the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 1320. They both have 6″ Screens, and run Windows Phone 8. More Info Below.

Nokia Lumia 1520

This is the new “phablet” flagship phone (I really dislike that word, can’t we come up with a better one?). Set to rival devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, This is Nokia’s first foray into the bigger phone arena, and judging by the specs, they are going for it and using what they know best. Featuring a new 20MP camera and bigger 3400 mAh battery, along with a 6″ 1080p screen optimized for outdoor viewing, they have built quite the beast here. The Nokia Lumia 1520 will be an AT&T exclusive when it comes out later this year in North America.

Specs:
  • Windows Phone 8
  • 6” full HD 1080p LCD, ClearBlack, Sunlight readability, Super sensitive touch, Gorilla Glass 2
  • PureView 20 MP, ZEISS optics,OIS, 2x lossless zoom, oversampling, dual LED flash
  • Video 1080p @ 30 fps full HD video with optical image stabilization
  • 4G LTE
  • Nokia Music for unlimited streaming of ad-free music
  • Free global HERE Maps and HERE Drive+, HERE Transit available in the Store
  • Microsoft Office built-in
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (2.2GHz Quad Core)
  • 3400 mAh (integrated) with built-in wireless charging
  • Yellow, white, black, glossy red

Nokia Lumia 1320

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is Nokia’s idea of creating a more “affordable” “phablet”. At 6″ it shares a very similar footprint to its big brother, the 1520, but there are some caveats. The Lumia 1320 has a 6″Screen but is 768×1020 instead of 1080p. It also includes a dual core CPU and 1GB of RAM, and the camera has been cut to a 5MP snapper, but they managed to get all of this in a package for 349$.

Specs:
  • 6-inch display, 768×1020 resolution
  • Dual-core processor
  • 3400 mAh battery
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 5MP camera
  • microSD support
  • Three rows of normal sized Live tiles
  • Comes in matte yellow, matte black, glossy white, and glossy red
  • $349

So there we have it, Nokia’s new Lumia Phones. They are big and colourful, and if you are a Windows Phone user, or would like to be one but wanted a bigger screen, well now you are in luck.

SteelSeries 9H Headset Is Available for Pre-Order Now

SteelSeries 9H-hero-shot

So our friends over at SteelSeries are just about to release their newest headset, the 9H.

The 9H features three different Dolby® technologies, a double enclosure design, SteelSeries signature retractable microphone, and a swappable cable system to allow for cross platform usage on PC, Mac, handheld consoles or tablets and smartphones. The 9H also features thick leather ear cups for extended use comfort, during those long gaming sessions. Like all of SteelSeries Products, the 9H was designed alongside professional gamers to create the most balanced and linear tournament-grade soundscape. To get a better idea of how they did this take a look at this video below

SteelSeries 9H1SteelSeries 9H2

I had a chance to get some hands on time with this headset at PAX, and I have got to say, what a sweet, sweet headset. They are very comfortable, and fit very nice on the head, I could easily see gaming in them for long periods of time. The sound quality from them was honesty jaw dropping. I never expected a pair of gaming headphones to sound so good. I didn’t get an opportunity to test the Dolby® Technologies in them, but here is hoping I can get my hands on a pair and see how they sound for you guys. I really liked the style, it is a lot more low key then a lot of gaming headsets and with the retractable Mic I could definitely see myself using them outside of the house. The swappable cable system has in line controls, but also can be  disconnected on the go for a more streamlined “on the go” headset. Honestly I will be following this closely and I would highly recommend if you are in the market for a new pair of headphones to give the 9H a look.

SteelSeries 9H Sound Dongle

Equipped with an advanced USB soundcard, the SteelSeries 9H provides users with Dolby® Technology that works together to create incredible sound:

·      Dolby Digital – reproduces multichannel audio to deliver a cinematic audio experience

·      Dolby Headphone – allows up to 7.1 channels of realistic multi-channel surround sound

·      Dolby Prologic IIx – provides the smoothest surround sound experience allowing for multiple listening modes and a more realistic sound

Windows 8.1 Is Now Available

Windows-8.1 Logo

The long awaited return of the start menu (well long awaited by some people)  is finally upon us….kind of.  Windows 8.1 is finally out today, as a free upgrade for Windows 8 users, and with it they have brought back the Start Menu Button. This time though, it just launches into the Start Screen that we have all come to either love or hate (personally I am a big fan, really like the forward movement here, but I digress) But at least for those people that found Windows 8 confusing and didn’t know how to get back to the start menu, the lovely button is there now. They also have included the option to boot straight into desktop mode, instead of going into the start menu first, which for some people is a big deal (not like it was hard to click one button…) Windows 8.1 also includes a plethora of small changes throughout the OS that really do make it feel much more streamlined. So if you haven’t made the upgrade to 8.1 yet, I highly recommend it. You can access the upgrade from within your Windows Store on Windows 8, if you don’t have Windows 8 yet, you can head over to Microsoft and grab it there, or if you would prefer, you can also get it at your nearest retailer who sells Microsoft software.

Win8.1Boxshots

I upgraded earlier this morning, and I must say it was a VERY painless experience, I went to the Windows store, saw there was an update and clicked yes to download, once that was complete I just restarted like it asked, waited a little while, filled a few things out and Viola! I was on 8.1. All of my programs and settings are all the same, it was a wonderfully easy and painless experience. So again, what are you waiting for? Go get your upgrade on!

Hoping For A New X-Wing VS Tie-Fighter Game? Then GoD Factory: Wingmen Is The Game For You

GoD-Factory-Wingmen-Steam-Cover

Lets face it, the chances of us getting a new X-Wing VS Tie-Fighter game is slim to non. But have no fear my friends, as Nine Dots Studio are working on a squad based, competitive, space combat simulator. This is a game where you customize a ship, and then you and your squad go out there, shoot down enemy ships, and attempt to blow up their carrier. Seriously, check out some early footage of that dogfighting action below.

And just to show off how far this talented studio has come, here is the video they were showing off at PAX (along with being able to play the beta) I gotta say, I played a bit of this at PAX myself, and I was highly impressed, the game plays great, it looks fantastic, and really managed to scratch that space combat itch that has been SORELY missing in the gaming landscape of late.

Now if you think that this is something you are interested in playing, I urge you to get over to their Kickstarter HERE, and help them reach their goal. They have less then 48 hours left, and so if you have been yearning for a new X-Wing VS Tie Fighter, get in there and help em out, as this is definitely the closest you are gunna get, at least for now.

Watch Dogs Delayed On All Platforms Until Spring 2014

Watch_Dogs

Today in a blog post, Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs has been delayed until spring 2014 for all platforms. No specific date has been given for the game in the spring as of yet. I am a little surprised that such a huge game would be getting pushed back so close to release.

At PAX they were not allowing hands on time with the game, and maybe that should have been a sign that it needed a bit more time. Or maybe Ubisoft realized that having Watch Dogs come out alongside Assassins Creed 4 would not be good for sales of either title and felt that moving the releases apart would be a better plan. I am just speculating here, but it is very curious to have a title so close launch get moved like this. You can read Ubisoft’s full Blog message below.

Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion keeps us motivated.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

We will keep you guys posted about when the new release date is when we receive it.
