Tony Hawk: Pro Skater 5 Announced

tonyhawk PS5-4

It has been more then a decade since we have seen a new Pro Skater, but it looks like Activision has decided it is time. They have announced the new Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, PS3 as well as Xbox 360.

Robomodo, the developer of the previous Tony Hawk: Ride, Shred and Pro Skater HD is at the helm, and they are claiming that they are heading back to the roots of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series in this, which mean missions, power-ups and all sorts of ridiculousness.

They are hoping to create a seamless online world were you can be online and playing with friends and then be offline and have the transition be invisible to the user. They are also saying that players will be able to create and design their own skate parks and share them online.

Activision has come out and said that the game will be 20$ cheaper on Xbox 360 and PS3, and that some of the “seamless” online play may not make it onto those platforms.

So in a move that is making the whole Internet go up in flames, Oculus VR announced yesterday that they are being bought by Facebook. In a Deal worth $2 billion, Facebook will be acquiring all of Oculus VR, the deal, while not finalized yet, is expected to be complete in 2Q 2014.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg had this to say of the deal “Mobile is the platform of today, and now we’re also getting ready for the platforms of tomorrow, Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play and communicate.”

Oculus also seemed quite happy about the deal saying “We are excited to work with Mark and the Facebook team to deliver the very best virtual reality platform in the world,” Brendan Iribe, co-founder and CEO of Oculus VR says in a PR release. “We believe virtual reality will be heavily defined by social experiences that connect people in magical, new ways. It is a transformative and disruptive technology, that enables the world to experience the impossible, and it’s only just the beginning.

The Deal will be a mix of around $400 Million in cash, and the remainder being Facebook shares once the deal is finalized.

Sooo…. It is looking like VR is ramping up in the coming months and I will be very curious how this changes things going forward, not only for Oculus but for the Sony VR platform as well.

Nintendo Announces the Nintendo 2DS, No This is NOT a Joke.

Nintendo 2DS

This morning Nintendo announced, the Nintendo 2DS Handheld. It will play all of the DS and 3DS games, but only in 2D.

In the US it will be available in red or blue for $129.99 from 12th October, the same day Pokémon X and Pokémon Y comes out.

Sony reveals PS4 to be $399 at launch.

Header

After much media speculation, Sony revealed tonight, during their press conference at E3, that the PS4 will launch this holiday season for $399. That puts it a solid 100$ less then the Xbox One. So between the price, and the total lack of any used game restrictions, Sony looks to be aiming for a price sensitive sweet spot, and dare I say, they are hitting it. Start, these console wars have!

A very interesting way to look at the used game issue.

Used Games banner

The issue of used video games is a big one right now. Everyone is up in arms about it, due to the fact that the new generation of consoles is right around the corner, and they have yet to announce how this is going to work. I came across this video earlier and I thought it brought up some very good points. While I am not sure if I agree with all of it, I think the author pretty much nails it on the head, in explaining why, when it comes to video games, used games are a real issue. Take a look at this video below and feel free to tell me what you think in the comments.

Shadow of the Eternals wants so badly to be Eternal Darkness 2.

shadowoftheeternals

So yesterday Precursor Games launched a crowd-funding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals. They are looking to raise 1.5 Million Dollars to bring this episodic game to the Wii U and PC in Q3 2014. They are hoping to create a total of 12 episodes in all and are asking for your money to do it. Some are calling this a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Now this is a relatively new company which, after looking at their website, appears to be filled mostly with Ex Silicon Knights employees, which for better or worse includes Denis Dyack. Denis Dyack was the Writer, Producer and Director for Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Now this is not a Kickstarter campaign, so I would tread carefully with this one, as there is no way to back out after you pledge. Teaser trailer is below.
