Alien: Isolation Officially Announced, Looking To Head Back To The Survival Horror Roots

So it is no secret that the last Alien game, Aliens: Colonial Marines was not very good, but it appears that Sega wants to try again. This time they have decided to go in a different direction, and they are hoping to scare the pants off you in this upcoming survival horror game.

According to the press release, Alien: Isolation is set 15 years after the events of Alien and you play as Ripley’s daughter, Amanda, as she searches for the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. Going to a survival horror game should bring back more of  the feeling from the movie, and I am hoping that it will make for a much better game then the last one.

Today marks the day that CD Projekt RED unveils their first gameplay trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This game is on many people’s radar, and rightly so as it looks fantastic; if The Witcher 2 is anything to go off of, they will continue to push the bounds of the RPG Genre in not only size and scope, but also in sheer graphics fidelity. Take a look below at the trailer, and try not to druel all over your keyboard.

John Carmack, Creator of Doom, Officially Leaves id Software

Today it was announced that Doom Creator and long time Uber Programmer, John Carmack has Officially left id Software. In an official statement, id’s studio director Tim Willits told IGN:

John Carmack, who has become interested in focusing on things other than game development at id, has resigned from the studio. John’s work on id Tech 5 and the technology for the current development work at id is complete, and his departure will not affect any current projects. We are fortunate to have a brilliant group of programmers at id who worked with John and will carry on id’s tradition of making great games with cutting-edge technology. As colleagues of John for many years, we wish him well

Carmack, who was actually one of the co-founders of id, had recently joined Oculus as the CTO, but had remained at id in some capacity. Now this appears to be the end of that, and we appear to be seeing Carmack going away from games and developing more tech in the Oculus.

We wish him the best at Oculus, and can’t wait to see the exciting things that will be coming from that relationship.

New Indie Publisher, Renegade Machine Starts Up

So, our friend Tom Ohle from Evolve PR and Khaled Ibrahimi, Cinematic Producer of Killzone 3 and longtime developer, have started a new Indie Publishing Studio called Renegade Machine. They have created this new studio to help indies find success. Using Tom’s knowledge of media and PR and Khaled’s knowledge of development, they intend to be the publisher that can help indies in whatever manor they may need it. As Tom puts it,

Perhaps a better answer is that we want ultimately want to help developers wherever we’re needed. I’ve spent a long time in video game PR/marketing — 12 years and counting — so certainly we’re able to help devs on the promotional side. My cohort Khaled Ibrahimi has spent his career on the other side of the coin — development, that is — and as such we’re able to help with production issues, dev pipelines, managing a virtual team and everything else you need to do to get a game out the door. We’ve also both been around the block enough times to be able to consult on business matters, make connections, help with distribution and so on.

We realize that developers often have a negative image of publishers: they force ideas on you, take too much money or just plain suck. We want to use our experience in working with publishers to build an appealing publishing option for a wide range of indie needs. To that end we’ve pulled together a survey. If you’re an indie dev, we’d really appreciate a few minutes of your time so we can truly understand what you’re looking for in a partner.

Starting today thru Monday Future Shop and Best Buy Canada have an insane trade in deal that will unlikely ever be beat. Trade in any and I mean ANY PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or Wii U game for your choice of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV and Battlefield 4 for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U or PC. I can confirm that this is the real deal as you can see I definitely took advantage of this wicked deal. There is a limit of 1 game of your choice per trade but if you’re lucky like me you can make friends in line ask them to trade for you. (Thanks Jareth’s girlfriend and random dude behind me!) I was in line for about 2 and a half hours and there was still easily 400-500 people waiting in line. An added bonus is that these games are eligible for the Next Gen Upgrade deal where you can get these titles now and upgrade to Next Gen for only $10. Your milage may vary on this deal as reports are that some stores have already run out of stock. Thanks to my buddy Dustin who told me about this amazing deal.

Well Think no longer, as Blizzard has shown off some gameplay footage for its new game, Heroes Of The Storm. Heroes Of The Storm takes characters from across all the Blizzard games, and places them in a League of Legends, DOTA 2 Style MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) If anyone can possible go up against the behemoth that is LoL and DOTA 2, it would be Blizzard. Call of Duty: Ghosts Sells Over $1 Billion In First Day At Retail

Activision this morning announced, that Call of Duty: Ghosts has sold more then $1 Billion into retail on the first day of release. Since being released yesterday, it has moved into the #1 spot on Xbox Live, according to Microsoft. Activision has also stated that the average play session on Xbox 360 has been longer on Ghosts then either Black Ops II or Modern Warfare 3 during the same time period. They also went on to state that Call of Duty: Ghosts is Gamestop’s Most preordered Next Gen Title, and that Activision saw more then 15,000 midnight launch events around the world for the title. SANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced today that the company sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty®: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide as of day one.

“Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty®: Black Ops II, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.”

Millions of people are already playing Call of Duty: Ghosts online. Since its release yesterday, Call of Duty:Ghosts has moved to the #1 spot as the most played game on Xbox Live, according to Microsoft. Additionally, Activision confirmed that on the Xbox 360 videogames and entertainment system from Microsoft, average player sessions for Ghosts have been longer than either Black Ops II or Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3, during the same time period.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launched at 15,000 midnight openings around the world. Fans around the world shared their excitement in social media, with Call of Duty-related terms trending an astounding 20 times globally on Twitter in the last 24 hours.

“Ghosts is an amazing game which ushers in the next generation of Call of Duty. The team at Infinity Ward has delivered yet another epic thrill ride in the campaign, and what I think is our best multiplayer game yet,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out now across PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and I even saw it for sale for the PS4 when I was in the store yesterday.
