Konami announced today that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the prequel episode for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, will be coming out spring 2014. This is to be “part one” in the two part Metal Gear Solid V game. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is being setup to help ease players into the new control and gameplay advances that will be an integral part of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The Press Release reads:
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will launch Spring 2014 as a prologue to the events leading into METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. This prologue brings all of the hallmarks of the renowned franchise in a concentrated story mode that guides players into the new gameplay mechanics against the backdrop of the expansive METAL GEAR SOLID universe.
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES features new advances made possible by Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine, such as radical new game design, day and night cycles, and weather conditions that will all dynamically affect gameplay. The missions are designed to ease players into the new control and gameplay advances that will be an integral part of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.
The METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES storyline follows the series’ hero, Big Boss, as he infiltrates a remote Cuban prison camp on a rescue mission, all while trying to remain undetected. Explosive plot lines develop quickly as he finds himself on behind enemy lines with little options for help.
METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN will pick up where METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES leaves off and will plunge players into a new breed of open-world stealth action, featuring deep story arcs and dynamic gameplay as expected of a canon chapter in the METAL GEAR SOLID series. Both titles will be released for PlayStation®3, PlayStation®4, Xbox360® and XboxOne® systems, highlighting the groundbreaking capabilities the FOX Engine brings to current and next generation consoles.
“The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine are allowing me to express the story of METAL GEAR SOLID in a new way,” explained Hideo Kojima, Creator of the METAL GEAR SOLID series, and head of Kojima Productions. “There will be a significant difference in what METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAINbrings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game offers. As such, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES has been designed to introduce key elements, while setting up the events of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.”
Konami also sent some new screenshots for Ground Zeroes:
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be released in Spring 2014 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One. The game will retail in store for $29.99 and $19.99 via online download on current gen systems. For the Xbox One and PS4 it will be available via online download for $29.99.

Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can’t wait for next week’s launch.
So there we have it, finally an answer to all the questions that have been swirling around in the media these last few weeks.

So our friends over at SteelSeries are just about to release their newest headset, the 9H.
The 9H features three different Dolby® technologies, a double enclosure design, SteelSeries signature retractable microphone, and a swappable cable system to allow for cross platform usage on PC, Mac, handheld consoles or tablets and smartphones. The 9H also features thick leather ear cups for extended use comfort, during those long gaming sessions. Like all of SteelSeries Products, the 9H was designed alongside professional gamers to create the most balanced and linear tournament-grade soundscape. To get a better idea of how they did this take a look at this video below
I had a chance to get some hands on time with this headset at PAX, and I have got to say, what a sweet, sweet headset. They are very comfortable, and fit very nice on the head, I could easily see gaming in them for long periods of time. The sound quality from them was honesty jaw dropping. I never expected a pair of gaming headphones to sound so good. I didn’t get an opportunity to test the Dolby® Technologies in them, but here is hoping I can get my hands on a pair and see how they sound for you guys. I really liked the style, it is a lot more low key then a lot of gaming headsets and with the retractable Mic I could definitely see myself using them outside of the house. The swappable cable system has in line controls, but also can be disconnected on the go for a more streamlined “on the go” headset. Honestly I will be following this closely and I would highly recommend if you are in the market for a new pair of headphones to give the 9H a look.
Equipped with an advanced USB soundcard, the SteelSeries 9H provides users with Dolby® Technology that works together to create incredible sound:
· Dolby Digital – reproduces multichannel audio to deliver a cinematic audio experience
· Dolby Headphone – allows up to 7.1 channels of realistic multi-channel surround sound
· Dolby Prologic IIx – provides the smoothest surround sound experience allowing for multiple listening modes and a more realistic sound
The 9H is up for preorder from SteelSeries as well as other fine electronics retailers for 159$. For more information you can head over to SteelSeries.
