EA and DICE Announce February as Battlefield 4 Player Appreciation Month

Battlefield 4 is an amazing game when its working, unfortunately multiplayer has been severely broken for a majority of its players. Battlefield 4 has had its fair share of hiccups since its launch in October and with no end in sight. However EA and Dice seem to be getting their priorities straight and are working on major fixes and damage control. As a thank you for players patience the developer announced today on their blog that February will be Battlefield 4 Player Appreciation Month. Dice will be running everything from double XP weekends, FREE equipment unlocks and FREE battlepacks everyday you log in during the month long event. Check out the link below for more information and add me on Origin as I will definitely be playing some Battlefield during the event.

Microsoft Acquires Gears of War From Epic Games

Gears of War Logo

Microsoft announced this morning that they have acquired the rights to the entire Gears of War franchise; including all existing and future games, merchandise, as well as entertainment experiences (TV shows, movies, etc) from Epic Games. They also announced that there will be a new team, Black Tusk Studios in Vancouver, B.C  taking over development of the Gears of War franchise, similar to how 343 Studios took over Halo from Bungie.  Joining Black Tusk Studios will be former Director of Production at Epic Games, Rod Fergusson, who will be taking a key leadership role at this new studio and helping to drive the franchise forward.

Epic Games also announced in a statement that they are licensing the Unreal Engine 4 technology to Microsoft in support of their future projects. They also said they are very proud of the “Gears” franchise and are happy with this agreement, as this allows Microsoft to forge ahead with the “Gears” franchise while they themselves concentrate on new projects.

This is pretty huge news, especially for the Vancouver video games industry. Hopefully this will help to rejuvenate a once healthy game industry, that recently has seen many games and studios going elsewhere. I look forward to seeing what Microsoft does with the franchise and I guess this ends the question of if we will ever see a “Gears” game on a Sony platform, although, now maybe we will get gears on PC…… *crosses fingers*

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Gameplay Trailer and Screens Here

Middle-Earth-Shadow-Of-Mordor-2014-Game

Monolith Productions and WB Games, finally released some game-play footage for their new Lord of the Rings based game, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. This is looking kind of like a cross between Batman Arkham Asylum and Assasins Creed, but in the Lord of the Rings universe. I highly recommend taking a look at the new gameplay walk-through video below, as it is looking like a really cool idea.

With Monolith behind the production I have very high hopes for this game, Monolith has created some of my favorite games( Shogo M.A.D, No One Lives Forever, F.E.A.R, and Alien VS Predator 2), and they always seem to create very polished, well playing games. I will be keeping a close eye on this one, but for now, take a look at these screenshots below.

No word on a release date yet, but it is in production for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. More info can be found Here.

Razer Announces Project Christine Concept, Looks To Make The PC Modular

razer-christine-06

Have you ever wished that you could just go to the store and buy a new CPU, RAM, or GPU and then just go home and plug it in like a USB or something and not have to worry about opening up your PC, and getting all down and dirty inside it? Or maybe wish you could just do that and not have to call that techie friend to come help you put it all together? Well Razer has thought these same things, and has come up with this very interesting modular design concept.

razer-christine-03

The Idea here is that you buy the “spine” and then you buy the components you want to add to your PC; such as CPU, RAM, GPU, and hard drives as modules. Then you take these modules home, plug them into the “Spine” and voilà you just built your PC. Later on when you realize that maybe you want some more RAM or a better GPU (or maybe a Second one), you go to the store, purchase the GPU module you want, take it home and plug it in, simple as that.

razer-christine-02

Each module is sealed and completely self contained and features noise canceling, as well as active liquid cooling. They claim that by using this design it will be safe to overclock and not void any warranties.

razer-christine-01

The thought here, is that by buying into the “spine” you can simply upgrade your system as needed, very easily, so easily in fact, anyone can do it by just plugging in a new module of their choosing. Thus negating the need to replace entire systems and not having to have to get down into the nitty gritty of the system, which for some people also means that they can do it themselves instead of calling that friend to come do it for them.

razer-christine-04

For now, Razer’s Project Christine is a concept, but if Razer has shown us anything these last few years, it is that when they see an idea take off, they can make it happen.

razer-christine-05

I think this is a very interesting idea and assuming the cost isn’t insane, I think this is a great idea, especially for friends/family that would love to game on a PC but are to concerned about upgrading and tinkering. For them this would be a great solution to that problem, as when they are no longer able to play new games, they can go in and swap whatever components they need to in order to be current again. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this concept in the future, and here is hoping we see them actually make it happen.

Alien: Isolation Officially Announced, Looking To Head Back To The Survival Horror Roots

Alien Isolation gorsel

So it is no secret that the last Alien game, Aliens: Colonial Marines was not very good, but it appears that Sega wants to try again. This time they have decided to go in a different direction, and they are hoping to scare the pants off you in this upcoming survival horror game.

According to the press release, Alien: Isolation is set 15 years after the events of Alien and you play as Ripley’s daughter, Amanda, as she searches for the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. Going to a survival horror game should bring back more of  the feeling from the movie, and I am hoping that it will make for a much better game then the last one.

You can check out the release trailer for Alien: Isolation below.

Alien: Isolation is slated to be released sometime in Fall 2014 for the PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3.  You can find out more from their Website.

Sony Announces Playstation Now, Will Be Streaming Playstation Games To Your PS3, PS4, Tablet and Smartphone Soon.

PlayStation-Now

Today at CES (the Consumer Electronics Show), Sony announced how they are planning to utilize the cloud streaming service Gaikai that they purchased previously. They will be creating what they are calling Playstation Now, and it will allow streaming of Playstation games across all sorts of mediums, starting obviously with the PS3, Vita and PS4 game systems, but also going on to be used on tablets, smartphones and even Sony’s own line of Bravia TV’s. This new game streaming will be tied in with Sony’s new IPTV Service that they announced at CES as well

Sony has stated that this new streaming service will be either rental or subscription based and that PSN features like trophies, online multiplayer and messages will be making their way to it as well, even when you are on the go. This is starting to look like a very promising idea from Sony and would allow PS4 users access to the back catalog of PS3 games that they may have missed. The idea that this may end up being a “Netflix” for games is a very interesting idea, especially when we start talking about streaming and playing these games with just a Bravia TV.

Sony has announced that they will be having a PS3 beta for this service towards the end of January, followed by a larger US rollout in the summer. If you are interested in being a part of the beta, you can head over to Sony’s website Here and signup for more info.

We will be keeping an eye on this story, but so far, this is looking like a very promising idea from Sony and personally, I am very excited to see how this turns out.
