Super Mario 3D World is looking like the Super Mario we have all been waiting for

WiiU_SuperMario_scrn02_E3

Super Mario 3D World for the Nintendo Wii U is starting to look like the first innovative Mario game in quite some time. The mix of open area 3d style and platform style is impeccable. Not to mention, FINALLY a Mario in HD (It looks absolutely stunning BTW)

I have had a chance to get some hands on time with it a couple of times now, and I must say, I had a blast. Ether with friends or alone, it is a whole lot of fun. The new powers are great (I mean a cat suit?? YES PLEASE!) It controls wonderfully, and you can use the Wii U controller.  1080p Mario is a sight for sore eyes (please release a Super Mario Galaxy in HD, PLEASE) This is gaming fun at its purest form. I can’t remember the last time a game made me giddy while playing, just from the sheer amount of whimsy. But anyways, to get a better idea of what I am talking about, take a look at the trailer below, and prepare to get excited!

Super Mario 3d World is slated to be released on November 22, Exclusively on the Wii U.

Valve Announces the Steam Controller

SteamController

So today Valve finished off their Trilogy of announcements with the Steam Controller, a new Input device they have spent the last year working on.

They have designed it to be used with all current and future steam games, and in place of thumb stick they have added two, high resolution haptic trackpads, which are also click-able. This is definitely an interesting way of designing a controller, one in which Valve believes every game can be played on, even games like RTS games. They have essentially “tricked” the games into thinking you are playing with a mouse and keyboard and thus allows you to play any game on steam with this controller. They added a Diagram showing how this should work in Portal 2.

Steam controller_bindings

As you can see from the Diagram above, the middle area of the controller is also a touchscreen, which is also click-able, not unlike the PS4 controller.

Steam controller_schematic

Valve is also claiming that they have designed the controller to be “hackable” and are interested in how the community will utilize this controller. They plan to release tools out to the public to allow this to happen at an unspecified later date.  This controller will be part of the same Beta as the Steam Machine, in allowing the public to voice opinions and help mold where it goes, from software, all the way to design.

No word on when these will ship out to beta testers. For more information on the Steam Controller, and to see about getting into the beta, you can go here; Steam.

You won’t find any Kain or Raziel in this Nosgoth

Nosgoth Logo

Well, Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver fans, I am sorry to tell you, the new game set in this universe has absolutely nothing to do with either of those franchise’s, except for being set in the same “universe”.  Nosgoth is the competitive, team-based Human vs. Vampire free-to-play multiplayer game set in the dark fantasy world of the ‘Legacy of Kain’ series. The premise is that this game takes place during the war between Humans and Vampires. You can either play as a human or a vampire, the humans are more range characters with weapons, and the Vampires are more melee focused characters, where they themselves are weapons, and their movement is also much greater (run on walls, one can fly, etc) Square Enix has released the first video showing off this new game, you can check it out below.

Nosgoth is going to be a Free To Play game, and it is going into closed beta soon. Nosgoth is being developed for the PC, no word on a console release at this time. If you want to know more, and sign up for the closed beta, you can go here, Nosgoth.
