Sony Announces Playstation Now, Will Be Streaming Playstation Games To Your PS3, PS4, Tablet and Smartphone Soon.

PlayStation-Now

Today at CES (the Consumer Electronics Show), Sony announced how they are planning to utilize the cloud streaming service Gaikai that they purchased previously. They will be creating what they are calling Playstation Now, and it will allow streaming of Playstation games across all sorts of mediums, starting obviously with the PS3, Vita and PS4 game systems, but also going on to be used on tablets, smartphones and even Sony’s own line of Bravia TV’s. This new game streaming will be tied in with Sony’s new IPTV Service that they announced at CES as well

Sony has stated that this new streaming service will be either rental or subscription based and that PSN features like trophies, online multiplayer and messages will be making their way to it as well, even when you are on the go. This is starting to look like a very promising idea from Sony and would allow PS4 users access to the back catalog of PS3 games that they may have missed. The idea that this may end up being a “Netflix” for games is a very interesting idea, especially when we start talking about streaming and playing these games with just a Bravia TV.

Sony has announced that they will be having a PS3 beta for this service towards the end of January, followed by a larger US rollout in the summer. If you are interested in being a part of the beta, you can head over to Sony’s website Here and signup for more info.

We will be keeping an eye on this story, but so far, this is looking like a very promising idea from Sony and personally, I am very excited to see how this turns out.

ps4logo

Sony has announced, that since releasing the Playstation 4 in Europe and Latin America this past weekend, the total number of global PS4 consoles sold has crossed over the 2.1 Million mark. Not only did the PS4 break records after it launched in North America, but has since gone on to become the fastest selling console in the UK after it sold more then 250k Units in 48 hours; for comparison the Xbox One sold in the region of 150k Units in its first 48 hours on sale in the UK.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment said in a statement:

In what is shaping up to be a historic year for gamers, I’m delighted to share an important new milestone with you. PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.

It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

While PS4’s capabilities will continue to evolve, our commitment to gamers and breakthrough entertainment remains steadfast. We believe that videogames represent the pinnacle of artistry and entertainment, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that PlayStation remains the best place to play.

Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you.

In previous statements to investors, Sony said it hoped to sell 3 Million consoles by the end of 2013, and are hoping to hit the 5 million mark by March 2014.

This is exciting news for Sony and the Playstation brand, and we look forward to the future and what fantastic games it may hold.

Xbox One Sells More Than 1 Million Consoles Worldwide In Less Then 24 Hours

Xbox One Launch Event

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One, which launched today in 13 markets around the world, has officially sold more then 1 Million consoles, thus surpassing the day one sales of the Xbox 360, and setting a new record for Microsoft.

Microsoft has stated that the Xbox One is sold out at most retailers and that they are working on replenishing stock as quickly as possible.

“We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, Xbox. “Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season.”

So, both the PS4 and Xbox One are off to a fantastic start in this new console generation. Here is hoping that both can continue to get consoles out to fans and keep up with demand around the world. Microsoft has launched in 13 Markets around the world today, ranging from New Zealand all the way through North America and into Europe in the UK and Germany. Sony has launched in North America already, and launches in Europe next week. As this holiday season starts to heat up, I just hope that both these console juggernauts can keep up with, what is quite simply, phenomenal demand from consumers.

Gamestop Still Has 2.3 Million Customers Waiting On PS4

Gamestop store

Gamestop announced today, that they have sold out of their initial allotment of Playstation 4’s, and that they are currently sitting on a backlog of 2.3 Million orders waiting to be filled. Gamestop executives said that the initial sales of the PS4 have outsold sales of the PS3 by more then 80% during the same period.

This is looking like fantastic news for Sony, as they already announced that they have sold 1 Million Playstation 4’s in the first 24 hours after release. Now, it appears that the initial hunger from consumers for the console will continue through the Holiday’s, and that will make trying to find a PS4 likely very difficult.

Sony Sells 1 Million Playstation 4’s In The first 24 Hours

PS4, Controller and PS Eye.
PS4, Controller and PS Eye.

Sony has announced, that the Playstation 4 has sold through 1 Million Units in its first 24 hours since it launched on Nov 15, in the USA and Canada.

This is a huge number for a console launch, never have we seen these kind of numbers coming out of a console launch. Even the Nintendo Wii only sold through about 600k units in its first week on sale. These are fantastic numbers for Sony and it will be very interesting to see how the Xbox One does in comparison when it is launched this Friday. The real question that I keep asking, is wither  or not Sony can keep it up over the next several months, as these are usually the hardest on new consoles, as the launch games have been released, but the second wave of games hasn’t hit yet. So if Sony can keep the games coming over the next several months, they may really have a phenomenon on their hands. The other challenge they are going to face, is if they can keep up with demand for the console, especially with the European launch just around the corner.

But regardless, 1 Million consoles sold through is a fantastic accomplishment, Congrats Sony! Here is to more great games to come!

How To Install A Bigger Hard Drive Into Your PS4

Vertical stand for PS4

Today, our friends over at Gamespot, have posted a video showing how to change out the hard drive in the PS4. Sony has made it very easy to swap out to a bigger hard drive or to a faster one, like an SSD, and like the PS3, it does not void the warranty. For the step by step instructions, take a look at the video below.

Seeing how big game installs are going to be on the PS4 and the fact that they are mandatory, will definitely have me upgrading to a much bigger hard drive shortly after launch. What about you guys? upgrading your hard drive in your PS4?
